Vega Testing Enters Final Phase

Qnetic has completed the installation of the Vega safety shield, a critical infrastructure upgrade enabling safe, high-speed rotor testing as Vega advances.

The safety shield has been analysed and engineered in collaboration with Schenck, a globally recognized leader in spin testing and rotor dynamics. Working with Schenck ensured that the design, calculations, and safety margins meet the highest international standards for high-speed rotating systems.

In the video, you will see key moments from manufacturing, delivery, and on site installation, offering a behind the scenes look at the precision behind every step.

The shield is engineered to withstand a full rotor burst at speeds up to 12,000 rpm.

While the Vega rotor itself is rated for up to 20,000 rpm, this setup provides a wide margin of safety as we carefully ramp up testing from the previous 7,400 rpm limit to the new 12,000 rpm threshold.

Its purpose is clear:

  • Protect people
  • Protect infrastructure
  • Preserve the integrity of the testing environment

This installation is a key prerequisite for future full-capacity rotor testing and marks a significant milestone in Vega‘s development.

It reflects Qnetic’s commitment to rigorous engineering standards and proactive risk management, both essential for grid scale long duration energy storage.

More milestones ahead.
