Question 1 of 10
If it doesn’t degrade, why a 30-year life? What proves it?
The rotor is designed for 22,000 full cycles with safety margins. Cycling uses up fatigue life, never capacity.

The full answer
The rotor is designed for 22,000 full-equivalent cycles at its 11,000 rpm operating point, with safety margins on top. Cycling uses up mechanical fatigue life, but it never reduces storage capacity, which depends only on speed.
Parts such as the vacuum pump, power electronics and cooling have their own service lives and are replaced on a schedule. Long-duration testing and the utility pilots will provide the evidence for the design life.
