Won’t Chinese manufacturers copy it? What protects it?

Competition is expected. The hard part is a qualified, integrated product, and the design is covered by patent filings.

The full answer

Qnetic expects competition, including from China, and reads it partly as validation. Copying the concept is very different from building a reliable, commercially qualified product. The hard part is making the rotor, bearings, controls, vacuum, safety systems and manufacturing work together for decades.

The architecture is protected by patent filings covering the rotor and magnetic-bearing design, including four PCT filings so far. Some applications are granted and others are in examination. That IP, together with the integration know-how, is the moat.
